                         WHAT  WE  SHALL BE

It's June, that means it is time for Bible School. For one week this month, we will have a lot of different children coming into our church. This makes me stop and wonder how this week will influence their lives. My fondest memories growing up that revolve around VBS seem to center upon two things, cookies and kickball. Much will be different about today's VBS than what we remember as a child but cookies and kickball are still a timeless classic.
Many of the children will forget a lot of the Bible stories we will tell them and after a few weeks may start to forget their memory verses. You may say then, if much of this will be forgotten, then why bother with Bible School. A lot of what the children will learn about God at VBS will not come through a lesson book. To learn that others love us and the importance of worshiping God are two things that can, and will, pay great dividends in these children's lives. Looking back in my life I now realize how important it was, and how grateful I am, that a church would invest the kind of time and effort it takes to put together a VBS, to teach me these lessons. I truly believe the role that the church played in my life growing up has had great impact upon my life and where God is leading me today. In John 3:2 we are told, "now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is". This verse is explaining that through Christ we are being conformed to His image. We have this great opportunity to reveal Christ for a week to the children of our community. If we don't take this chance, some kids may go all year and not hear or be shown that there is a God that loves them. We will reveal Christ to the children in several ways this year, through song, crafts, lessons, and experiments. The most effective way we will reveal Him is by showing the kids that we love them. Who knows, this week may have a definite impact in shaping the life of a child into what they shall become. If you are able to help with VBS in any way, please let Julie know. If you are not able to help because of other circumstances, at least try to stop by for an hour during the week. In sharing a cookie with a child or rolling a kickball to one of these children you are helping to reveal the love of Christ. In doing so, you can help shape them into what they shall be

For the glory of Jesus Christ
